John W. Steele, PhD - Associate Director, hiPSC Platform

Dr. Steele joins us with over a decade of experience in the development of novel iPSC-based models of rare and common neurodegenerative diseases, including tauopathies and lysosomal storage diseases. His expertise is in cellular and molecular neurobiology, assay development, stem cell biology, genome engineering, and rare disease biology.

Dr. Steele received his B.A. in Psychology from Kenyon College and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed post-doctoral fellowships with Paul Greengard at Rockefeller University, Larry Goldstein at UC San Diego, and in R&D at Amicus Therapeutics. He was previously Assistant Professor of Biology at Cal Poly Humboldt and brings industry experience as Principal Scientist at Takeda Pharmaceuticals and as a co-founder of OrPhi Therapeutics. In his time away from the lab and office, John enjoys spending time with his young children, exploring the outdoors, and biking.
